I thought this day would never come to an end. Where to start? Let's see I went to the office on Friday the 18th at 7:30...went through the motions of working, to nobody's surprise.
Eloise dropped me off at the airport at 4:00, which turned out to be perfect timing. I walked right through security. Immediately after me, a huge line. It was the first time I had to go the X-Ray screener. Some lucky bastard get's to view that!
At 6:10, left for LAX. I had forgotten about the time change, so the flight only took 30 minutes since I landed at 6:30. Had to then go a different part of the airport--International--and their security. NIGHTMARE! Why, oh why do I always get behind the person who has never flown before.
"Oh, I have to take my shoes off?" "No water?"
Idiots!!!!!
Many of you may not be aware of this, but people in LA are INSANE!!!! Vegas has always been my favorite place for people watching, but the international termanial at LAX may now be it.
It took forever to load the 300 people on the plane. When I finally get to my seat, I realize a couple of things:
It is the smallest seat I've ever sat in...ever.
There is no leg room.
And, my "window" seat, is missing the WINDOW!!!
I thought fine, fine, with any luck, I'll be able to sleep through the flight, but then the girl in front of me put her seat back...right into my knee. I couldn't reach any of my things or get up. When then they served food, she really didn't want to sit up, but the attendand just sat her up anyway. Right after they cleaned up, the seat came back.
No sleep for me. A horrible, horrible flight.
But, wait, it gets better.
Heathrow likes to make sure everyone gets plenty of exercise when arriving in London, so you have to walk through a little maze before you get to "UK Border" for your lovely little stamp. Not a bathroom in sight, which makes the trip all the more interesting.
There had to be 400 people waiting for that damn stamp and about 5 people working. It was like going to Target for crying out loud.
That wait took another 1.5 hours.
Finally found my driver...he had been waiting 45 minutes. He thought he missed me. He said he normally gives people an hour after they land to get through everything.
But, the lovely man drove me right to the front door of my hotel. When I arrived, the woman said, "are you Vicky? I've just left you a message wondering where you were."
So, I'm here. I just ran across the street, got a few light things for dinner, then bed. Tomorrow I'll post pictures of the room. It's bigger than I thought. The kitchenette is FUNNY! Good thing I'm not bothered by tiny places.
I have no idea what time it is---clock is blinking 7:12--, but I'm off to bed. Haven't slept since Thursday night.
Looking forward to seeing London on Sunday.
Oh, the only good thing about the flight. This man touched my elbow and said, "excuse me" as he walked by me to board...1st class, of course. We had a connection. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0881631/
Get all the bad stuff out of the way early! Now on to the fun. Oh and I don't know who that guy is but he sure is cute!
ReplyDeleteRemember my flight from hell when the guy with a cold flipped his seat back and pinned me in for the entire trip? At least it was shorter than your flight. Glad you are there and resting up. Mom
